Vincents’ commercial team boost to meet growth

Vincents Solicitors has recruited and promoted within its growing commercial department following a year of sustained growth. The Lancashire law firm has hired solicitor Simon John and promoted former paralegal Sanya Motorwala to trainee solicitor.

The pair are part of the team headed by commercial lead Mark Alexander, alongside solicitor James Yates, commercial litigator Neil Jones, and administration assistants Val Thompson and Nicola Coan. An increase of 21 per cent turnover in the last year has meant the team is in need of additional support, all as part of the firm’s expansion strategy.

Simon qualified and worked as a quantity surveyor for 15 years before turning his hand to the law, now specialising in property and construction. During his career, Simon has worked for Forbes, Cobbetts and Freeth Cartwright, all within the commercial property departments, looking after private and commercial clients, and housing associations.

Most recently he worked for Burnley Borough Council advising on development agreements, construction contracts, framework agreements, public procurement, leases and grant funding applications. He was involved with a number of high profile schemes including the new University Technical College as part of the Weavers Triangle development, and the new Manchester Road Station as part of the Todmorden Curve project.

Sanya joined earlier this year from Curtis Law in Blackburn and previously worked for Forbes Solicitors in Blackburn for eight years in the corporate and commercial property teams. She is working directly with Mark Alexander on property and corporate matters

Mark Alexander said: “Both Simon and Sanya have proven records in commercial and property law and will be valuable members of the team, providing expert advice for our clients at a time when we’re taking on more deals, sales, acquisitions and contracts than ever before.

“Simon complements the existing services we offer within commercial property, while adding a particular construction specialism thanks to his previous career as a quantity surveyor and his experience working on some high profile regeneration schemes in East Lancashire with Burnley Council. Having worked for three years with a local authority, Simon has also gained experience of procurement, funding bids, construction contracts and working with housing associations, all of which will be of huge benefit to our clients.”

Simon added: “Vincents is a firm with huge ambition and it is a really exciting time to be coming on board. I’m looking forward to working with Mark and the team, who have built up a great client base with some really interesting projects. I hope by adding my experience and contacts to that mix we can continue to grow the business and service clients right across the property and construction sector. ”
