What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence is not defined only by physical or sexual abuse. Victims of domestic violence can also suffer emotional, psychological, financial and emotionally threatening forms of harassment.
If you are the victim of domestic violence and are being subjected to harassment in the form of controlling behaviour, isolation from family and friends, telephone calls in the middle of the night, threatening texts, a partner constantly checking up on you, following you, opening up your post or checking your phone we can help.
Often the hardest thing to do is to take the first steps in confiding in someone, our team are here to offer you their help and support. We can assist in helping you and your children start afresh, we work together with womens charities who can help you rebuild your confidence, advise you on employment and housing.
How can our Domestic Violence Solicitors help?
Our domestic violence solicitors can apply to court to get an injunction against your partner, we can apply to have your partner removed from the home and immediate surroundings, this is called an Occupation Order. If you are subjected to violence or threatening behaviour and harassment we can apply for a Non Molestation Order.
Forced Marriage
Forced marriage is when you are being made to marry someone against your will. Forced marriage can involve intimidation and violence by family members. In November 2008 the Forced Marriage Protection order came into force, its aim is to protect victims into being forced into marriage or to help remove someone from a situation where they have already been forced into a marriage.
The protection order is used to:
- Prevent a forced marriage from occurring
- To hand over passports
- Prevent a person from being taken abroad
- Reveal the whereabouts of a person
- Stop violence and intimidation
If you are being threatened by your family into marriage or are being subjected to domestic violence we can help.
