Biography

Oliver Banks is Head of Court of Protection and Trusts within the Private Client department.

With over 10 years of experience in the area of Court of Protection, Oliver has a broad range of knowledge and expertise in a very niche area of law. Having begun his training at a boutique firm in the North West, Oliver split his time between Personal Injury and Court of Protection matters.

Following his qualification as a Solicitor, Oliver transitioned into full-time Court of Protection work at one of the biggest nationwide firms.

Oliver joined us in September 2022 as Head of Department and has overseen strong growth in the number of cases that the department handles. Oliver acts as a named deputy for a number of clients, as well as a professional attorney for other clients where a deputyship isn’t appropriate. He heads up a team that undertake all manner of Trust work, lay deputyship applications, Lasting Power of Attorney work and any capacity-related queries. Oliver has appeared in Court advocating for clients and has also acted as an expert deputyship witness in Court of Protection matters.

Oliver enjoys working challenging cases, helping clients gain as much financial independence as their level of capacity will allow. He is passionate about the role of the Court of Protection, the work it carries out and the maintenance of a person’s human rights when capacity is lost.

Oliver is a qualified Solicitor regulated by the SRA, holds 2 BA Hons degrees, a Masters in Law, multiple professional qualifications and will shortly be starting his STEP qualifications.
