Without a Will, your surviving spouse may not receive the whole of your estate

Intestacy – new change in the law

Did you know that without a Will, your surviving spouse may not receive the whole of your estate?

As from July 26 2023, the fixed sum statutory legacy that a spouse or civil partner receives from an intestate estate – that’s when there is no Will in place - has increased from £270,000 to £322,000.

But what if the property and other assets exceeds this amount? Who else will benefit, and what does that mean for the surviving spouse and their home?
Take a look at the Rules of Intestacy below and consider whether you should be making a Will to protect your partner.
