Warning of backlog in A & E

Hospitals fear that they may be overrun with the sick this week following the junior doctors A & E strike.  People who have put off going to A & E during the strike are more likely to attend over the bank holiday weekend.  Officials have stated that it will take a week for hospitals to settle down and get back to normal.

Health officials cancelled 125,000 appointments and operations ahead of the two day strike.  Only the most critical patients were allowed to attend hospital and ambulance calls fell by a 5th.
