Tis the season to be jolly, but not everyone feels that way.

In fact, it is often the season to feel grumpy, cross, unappreciated, overwhelmed and even depressed.

As much as Christmas is meant to be about coming together with family and friends to celebrate love, laughter and all things sparkly and bright, we know it can be the most stressful time of the year.

Putting on the perfect Christmas takes a huge amount of time and effort, not to mention money. Finding time to shop for gifts and food, or even put up the decorations, in a busy schedule can really put the pressure on. Add to that the average family spends around £500 more in December than usual – and many spend substantially more – and the Festive Season can be a recipe for disaster.

Sadly Christmas and New Year are historically the busiest for divorce lawyers, as things often come to a head at this time of the year. Christmas pressures can be the catalyst for arguments, New Year the time to reflect and make changes for the future. The holiday season also puts people together for longer periods of time and cracks that had been papered over tend come unstuck.

No matter what the reasons, separation and divorce doesn’t need to get nasty, and it doesn’t have to cost the earth. Getting professional advice early on can help to keep things civil by setting some ground rules and creating some boundaries. Knowing where you stand and understanding your rights are crucial when it comes to getting a fair settlement, and feeling like you can take control of your future.

We will be there to help you through making that tough call, support your bid for a fair split, ensure you don’t get duped by opposing counsel, protect your parental rights and prioritise what’s best for any children, and do what we can to help make next year’s Christmas a little more jolly for everyone.
