Vincents Solicitors’ best ever Wills Week fundraiser

Firm donates a fifth of the total for St Catherine’s Hospice

Lawyers from across the county helped raise more than £5,000 for a Lancashire charity. Vincents Solicitors collected £5,110 for St Catherine’s Hospice as part of the annual Wills Week fundraiser.

A team from the private client department, comprising Lisa Lodge, Rebecca Perkes, Claire Burns, Donna Matthews and Amy Whiteside, helped existing clients and new customers to write or update their wills across offices in Garstang, Lytham, Knott End, Chorley and Penwortham.

Lisa Lodge, who is also head of the Garstang office, said: “This is the most the firm has ever raised for Wills Week and I’m so proud of the whole team who bent over backwards to see as many people as possible across all of our high street offices. Our donation represents a fifth of the charity’s total which is absolutely amazing. It was a great opportunity to see many of our existing clients and to welcome new customers to the firm, while doing something important for such a good cause.

“We’re doing wills all the time of course so we used this opportunity to tell people about St Catherine’s Hospice and raise awareness of the incredible work the charity does. We also spoke to everyone about the difference they could make by leaving a legacy to the hospice or another charity in their will. Legacy giving is really growing in popularity as many people like the idea of providing a gift for a charity close to their heart.”

In all, St Catherine’s Hospice raised £25,000 thanks to the efforts of 10 firms of solicitors across the county in November. It was the sixth year the charity has staged the event, which has raised £88,000 since 2011.

The fundraiser helps pay for the vital palliative care that the Lostock Hall-based hospice provides to the people of Lancashire. The charity has to raise £3.5million per year to cover its cost and Wills Week is just one of the initiatives which helps.

Lorraine Charlesworth, director of community and income for the hospice, said: “We can’t thank the solicitors enough for the time and effort they put into raising money during Wills Week. We have a staggering amount of money to raise each year and it is only through the generosity of our supporters that we can do what we do.”

Vincents will be taking part in Wills Week November 2017. Existing clients and members of the public will be able meet with a solicitor to make or update their will in return for a donation. Vincents will again be offering appointments from each of its high street offices in Garstang, Penwortham, Longridge, Knott End, Chorley and Lytham.
