Vincents to host ‘chippy tea’ for older people in Chorley

Solicitors team up with Age UK Lancashire for End Loneliness campaign

Older people in Chorley are invited to a ‘chippy tea’ this month as local law firm Vincents Solicitors joins the campaign to ‘End Loneliness’. The Vincents team is putting on dinner and a quiz at the Age UK Lancashire Lifestyle Centre in Gillibrand Street at 4pm on Monday April 29th.

Guests will be able to enjoy a tasty bite to eat and the promise of a fun evening making new friends, says Claire Hamilton, head of Vincents Chorley office. A number of Vincents’ clients will be invited to attend, along with any older members of the local community who fancy getting out and about and meeting new people.

Claire said: “We’ll be decorating the room with a 1940s, 50s feel, putting on music and a ‘Good Ol’ Days’ quiz that’ll see us reminiscing with guests I’m sure. We hope that a fun event like this will attract people who perhaps don’t get out as much as they used to and haven’t used the centre previously, to bring them together for something a little bit different.

“We know loneliness is a huge problem in our communities, and see it often with our older clients who can sometimes go days without seeing anyone. Age UK Lancashire is doing what it can to tackle social isolation with its End Loneliness campaign and we are very keen to get involved and play our part. The ‘chippy tea’ event will hopefully encourage some new people to come along to the centre and have a chat, meet new people and perhaps see what other activities are on offer at the fantastic hub here in Chorley.”

Age UK Lancashire’s Lifestyle Centre offers a vast range of clubs and activities, all aimed at older people in the local area. Book groups, gardening club and knitting are just some of the sessions available. And there is a community café which provides a space for those who prefer just to have a brew and a natter, or even a spot of lunch.

Angela Moss from Age UK Lancashire said: “It’s wonderful to have the support of local businesses like Vincents and we were delighted with their idea of putting on a ‘chippy tea’ and encouraging people to get together and reminisce, and have a really fun time.

“The event is aimed at individuals who haven’t used the centre previously and we are hoping to see lots of new faces, as we try to engage with as many people in the local area as possible.

“Those who already come to the Lifestyle Centre will tell you how fantastic it is to build those new relationships, catch up with old friends, and get active. We know it can be difficult to take that first step, but it really is so worthwhile to get out and about, not least for the benefits to physical and mental well-being as we get older.”

Attendance at the ‘chippy tea’ is free to those who haven’t attended the centre previously, but places must be booked in advance. Call 01257 267 293 to book a place.
