Forklift Truck Accident at Work

X was employed as a forklift truck driver and as part of his day to day employment was required to drive the forklift truck between commercial ships and the docks. On the date of our client’s accident he was driving the forklift truck down a ramp from the first deck of the ship when the forklift truck lost grip on a spillage on the ramp and collided with the side of the ship. Investigations carried out by Vincents Solicitors found the ships had been washing down the deck above and water had been spilt onto the ramp. The water had then mixed with an oily substance that was already present on the ramp causing the forklift truck to lose control and collide with the side of the ship. X pursued a successful claim against his employers for failing to notice that there was a hazard present on the ramp and failed to clean the spillage up before allowing X to continue with his work. X was successful in pursuing his employers for £3,000 in compensation.
